Export Boosting Policies and Firm Performance: Review of Empirical Evidence Around the World

Abstract How effective are government policy attempts to boost firm exports in the short-run? We answer this question by conducting a review of 33 studies from 26 countries around world, and provide nine findings. Export boosting policies defined as group public that aim increase short-run. These include such export promotion, export-oriented grants, guarantee schemes subsidised loans. Our provides insights into effectiveness with respect extensive intensive margins, well firms’ production function inputs its outputs. The heterogeneity effects across characteristics is emphasised, discussion enriched new evidence spillover policies. Finally, we summarise back-of-the-envelope calculations cost-benefit analysis recommendations for future research.
